Heart of Rest
It is the Gardener, God Himself, who pulls the weeds.
He is the One who can deal with the deepest fears hidden within our hearts. He is the One who can dig beneath the surface, uncover the roots that have been buried for years, and remove them completely. What once held fear, insecurity, anxiety, or disappointment can become a place where beauty grows.
Only God can do that.
Only the Gardener can prepare the soil for truth to take root and flourish. Only He can soften the ground that has been hardened by life's wounds, disappointments, and struggles. Only He can carry the cares that weigh heavily on our hearts.
Because He is our Gardener, we can rest.
Rest begins when we open the gate and invite Him into every corner of our hearts. The places we proudly display and the places we try to keep hidden. The places filled with blooms and the places overrun by weeds.
When we surrender our hearts to Him, He begins restoring them to their intended state.
A heart of rest is not a heart without responsibility. It is a heart that trusts God with what it cannot control.
Just as healthy soil requires nutrients to support growth, our hearts need the nourishment that only God can provide. Rest allows His truth, His presence, and His promises to replenish what has been depleted within us.
Rest is choosing to lay down our worries.
Rest is trusting God with provision.
Rest is surrendering our need for control.
Rest understands that every season has a purpose and that growth cannot be forced.
Too often, we try to produce something that is not yet in season. We strive, push, and labor, believing that if we work harder, we can create what only God can bring forth. But rest reminds us that our role is not to force the bloom.
Our role is to remain connected to the Gardener.
Rest is not idleness. It is not giving up. It is not ignoring what needs attention.
Rest is releasing the burden of trying to be the Gardener yourself.
It is sitting with your Savior and trusting His promises.
It is allowing Him to do the work that only He can do.
It is believing that He is cultivating something beautiful even when you cannot yet see it.
It is easy to worry about provision, security, and the future. It is easy to fear what might happen if things do not unfold according to our plans.
But a heart at rest knows who God is.
A heart at rest knows that He is faithful.
A heart at rest knows that He is Provider, Sustainer, Protector, and Shepherd.
A heart at rest knows that God will provide exactly what is needed, exactly when it is needed, for His purposes to bloom in our lives.
Sometimes rest requires us to surrender our own plans and pray as Jesus taught:
"Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
Rest trusts that God's will is greater than our own.
Rest believes that even in seasons that feel uncertain, God is still working.
Scripture reminds us that God is able to work all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
What feels like an ending may actually be the beginning.
What feels like a season of waiting may actually be a season of preparation.
What feels like buried potential may simply be seeds taking root beneath the soil.
So rest, dear friend.
Trust the Gardener.
Lay down your fears.
Release your need for control.
Allow Him to tend the soil of your heart.
Because the same God who plants the seed is the God who brings the bloom.
And what He has begun in you, He is faithful to complete.
