Will You Go the Extra Mile?

One of the most significant obstacles of my first year was completing the mile. I tried three times, always coming within seconds of missing it. With a few breakdowns behind the track shed, I had something else that became the difference maker: a senior teammate who had already passed the obstacle.

She ran beside me until I got it.

It was a testament to perseverance and the power of someone willing to come alongside you when things feel impossible.

Marriage can feel the same way.

There are moments when you are running a mile in your marriage, facing an area that looks like something you may never be able to overcome. But will you choose to be the teammate who never gives up as your spouse runs his “mile,” no matter how many times or how many laps you have to run?

You might be the reason why he makes it into the game.

"And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two."

— Matthew 5:41

Running the extra mile with someone can dramatically impact their life. It shows true character when you are willing to give up yourself to help someone else succeed, even when the circumstance seems unmovable.

Having someone come alongside me during one of my greatest struggles and push me through has profoundly impacted me. This selfless act is the cornerstone of a strong relationship. Taking this heart stance has a way of changing the trajectory.

That senior teammate’s willingness to run beside me allowed me to enter the next training and ultimately helped me play in the game.

Today, will you understand your impact?
Will you go the extra mile with them today?
Will you think of an area of your husband’s life where you could do something extra for him?
Is there a circumstance where he could use you to help propel him toward victory?

Sometimes, the extra mile you run alongside someone else is the very thing that helps them cross the finish line.
