Right now, we have an opponent.
Not the team across the basketball court, but the enemy of our souls, who has a game plan against your marriage.
One of the best ways to defeat an opposing team is to know their strategy.
In basketball, we studied our opponent and prepared plays to help us find victory. We didn't step onto the court unprepared.
The same is true in marriage.
From the beginning of Scripture in Genesis to the final chapters of Revelation, God reveals His heart for covenant, unity, and redemption. Where there is a healthy marriage covenant, there is order, agreement, and strength. It's no surprise that the enemy works so hard to divide what God designed to be united.
When I played basketball, our coaches often reminded us, "Play together as a team."
A team that rallies together, with every player fulfilling their role, can stop the opponent's run and change the outcome of the game. The same is true in marriage.
When we don't understand our God-given role, it's difficult to work together toward victory.
In Genesis 2:18, God calls the woman to be an ezer, a helper. This is not a lesser role. In fact, God uses the same word to describe Himself as our Helper throughout Scripture. Being a helper is a significant calling, one that has the power to strengthen not only your marriage but also your family, your community, and ultimately the world around you.
Your team needs you.
Your marriage needs you.
If there was ever a time when marriages, families, and communities needed people willing to embrace God's design, it is now.
As each of us faithfully does our part, God can use our homes to make an impact far beyond our own walls.
